Admission

The STEAM Academy Middle School is a challenging school for high-ability learners in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. Students work at an accelerated pace and focus on solving real-world problems through project-based learning. 

Only current fifth-grade students who reside in FFSD are considered in the STEAM Academy Middle School Application Process. 

Students who are identified as gifted and attend Probe will be sent a letter of intent through email if they are eligible to enroll at STEAM Academy Middle School.

Admitted students will begin at the STEAM Academy Middle School as sixth grade students.

Applications are currently closed.  (Applications for the 26-27 school year will open on 1/6/26 and closes on 1/20/26 11:59 PM.).  Applicants will be notified if they have moved forward to Phase II in February 2026.

Application Process

  1. Phase 1 - Review of students’ STAR Math, STAR Reading and Galileo Benchmark scores.
  2. Phase 2 - Applicants chosen for Phase II will need to provide recommendations from teachers, principals, coaches, etc., and participate in three events: an Interview, an Art Assessment, and a Performance Task. These events will be scheduled at FFSD intermediate schools during the school day the last week of February.
  3. In March, students will be notified if they have been selected to attend the STEAM Academy as sixth-grade students. Those students not chosen may be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted if space becomes available.
  4. Students who qualify for Gifted Education will be notified if they may attend STEAM. (Probe students will not participate in the application and interview process.)

Admission for Probe Students in Grade 5

Fifth grade students who qualify for Gifted Education will be notified if they may attend STEAM. These students will be sent an Intent to Enroll form in December. Probe students will not participate in the application and interview process. 

Admission for Probe Students in Grades 6, 7, and 8

Students who meet state and district requirements for Gifted Education and who remain in good standing by following the AAA requirements may attend STEAM Academy Middle School.
